INSTITUTE FOR REGIONAL ECONOMIC STUDIES RAS
The Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science Institute for Regional Economic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IRES RAS) is established in 1974. It operates under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. IRES RAS is a part of the Economics Section of the Department of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
IRES RAS employs highly qualified specialists, including one academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 21 Doctors of Sciences and 32 Candidates of Sciences.
Key research areas:
- Developing strategies for the advancement of regional socio-economic systems and exploring novel methods for organizing society and economy on a territorial level;
- Analyzing the socio-economic implications of scientific and innovative activities in the region;
- Addressing socio-economic issues of establishing an effective system for ecological safety for the population;
- Investigating labor, social development, and social protection of the population in the region;
- Conducting theoretical research in economics;
- Employing mathematical modeling techniques for urban and regional economic issues;
- Investigating theoretical and applied problems in information technology as it pertains to economic, sociological, and humanitarian research;
- Developing theories and modeling methods for analyzing the impact of economic activity on the natural environment and the economics of nature management.
The Institute's applied research focuses on the socio-economic development of the North-West of Russia and its regions.
IRES RAS organizes All-Russian and regional scientific conferences with international participation on various topics related to regional economy.
IRES RAS provides postgraduate studies (on a contractual basis in full-time education) in the scientific specialty 5.2.3 "Regional and Sectoral Economics" as well as additional professional education and advanced training.
IRES RAS has a Dissertation Council and a branch of the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
